Qatar Hosts International Common Criteria Conference (ICCC)

For the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, the State of Qatar is hosting the International Common Criteria Conference (ICCC) from November 4 to 6, an event held under the auspices of the National Cyber Security Agency. This annual conference is a premier gathering of cyber security experts, government officials, industry leaders, researchers, and academics from around the globe, to discuss and collaborate on cyber security standards, practices, and technologies. The conference aims to enhance communication among the global common criteria community, regulatory authorities, member organizations within the Global Common Criteria Agreement, and policymakers. Hosting the ICCC offers an opportunity to showcase locally developed innovations, attracting investments and business opportunities aligned with Qatar’s national vision of creating a knowledge-based economy. The event also provides companies and professionals with valuable insights into industry developments through lectures and discussions presented throughout the conference. In her opening remarks, Engineer Dana Yousif Al Abdulla, Director of National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs and Head of Qatar Common Criteria Program at the National Cyber Security Agency, delivered a presentation titled “Qatar’s Vision for Enhancing Cyber Resilience in Supply Chains.” Al Abdulla highlighted Qatar’s cyber security journey, beginning with with key legislations, regulatory tools, and Qatar’s membership in the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA) in 2015. Al Abdulla also outlined Qatar’s forward-looking plans with the launch of Qatar’s National Cyber security Strategy 2024-2030. This strategy builds on Qatar’s previous achievements and introduces new pillars and objectives aimed at strengthening the cyber security assurance system, with an emphasis on cross government collaboration. Throughout the three-day event, attendees engaged in discussions on major topics, including the increasing challenges facing the global common criteria community, innovative solutions to address these challenges. Sessions also covered client requirements, to ensure that cyber security products meet market needs, conform to rigorous standards, and adhere to modern testing methodologies. Additionally, updates were shared on the common criteria scheme, with participating countries presenting progress reports and roadmaps for future developments. On the sidelines of the conference, the National Cyber Security Agency held meetings with various key organizations to discuss implementing common criteria standards within critical sectors. Discussions centered on how sector regulators could benefit from the Common Criteria Program and the specialized services offered through Qatar’s Common Criteria Program for companies. The Common Criteria is an international set of guidelines and specifications defining a framework for IT security evaluation and certification. It provides assurance that IT products meet standard security requirements whether in software, hardware, or technical systems used by government agencies or specific sectors.
